Happy St. Patrick's Day!
And in honor of the Irish holiday, davemackey.com proudly recommends the new Collector's Edition DVD reissue of Alan Parker's "The Commitments". This 1991 film is about a bunch of Dublin ragtags who form a soul band. The film is soaked with classic 60's tunes, some in the original, some performed by the Commitments (who all did their own singing for the soundtrack).

Some may think that Alan Parker has struck greater cinematic gold elsewhere - he's also directed "Evita", "Pink Floyd The Wall", "Midnight Express" and "Fame" - but for my money, this is Alan Parker at his best.
